Authoritarian Leadership

Authoritarian leadership style, also referred to as autocratic leadership, is the style in which leaders finally holding all the power. autocratic leaders have individual control over each decision with little or no input from others. These leaders tell others what to do, how to do and when it must be done. Although it is not preferred, this leadership style can be useful at times. For example, when the team needs a new vision, when deadlines are tight, or when a decision must be made quickly. Moreover, if a lot of people involved in this project and there is little or no time for everyone to discuss these issues and try to reach an agreement. Some of the projects and the situation requires strong leadership to get things accomplished effectively and timely. While this leadership style can be effective at times, for the most part it is not preferred and can cause problems. Many times this leadership style can make leaders came off as bossy, controlling, dictatorial or even rude. It can cause people to feel disturbed or upset, which can hamper the way the team operates as a whole. This leadership style will not work well if the whole group is as experienced or more knowledgeable than the leader.

Laissez-Faire Leadership
At the opposite end of the spectrum is the laissez-faire leadership style, which is more of a hands-off approach. A laissez-faire leader gives another person with the right tools and resources needed, and then retreated, giving little guidance and direction, which allows members to have the freedom to make decisions. This leadership approach can be effective when members of a group of highly skilled, experienced, motivated and able to work alone. Although this style is not ideal in most situations, especially if the group does not have the right experience or knowledge needed to complete tasks or make decisions. Not to mention, some people just are not as good at setting deadlines on their own or manage their own projects as others. Some people in the group also may not have the necessary motivation to get certain tasks done on time and without that extra push from the leader, the deadline may be missed.

Participative Leadership
Participatory leadership style to meet somewhere in the middle between the authoritarian approach and laissez-faire. A participative leader allows others to contribute to the decision-making process, allowing them to provide input and share their ideas. However, leaders ultimately have the final say. This leadership style also improve employee morale because their creativity is encouraged and appreciated, and they are able to contribute in the decision making process, which can make them feel more valued and important to the company. This leadership approach can be effective and useful because it helps employees feel more engaged and committed to the job and their projects, which can make them more motivated to go above and beyond. It can also lead to higher productivity among employees as well. While this leadership style is usually the most effective, it does have some potential disadvantages. For example, in some cases, members of the group may not have the necessary knowledge or expertise to make quality decisions or contribute to decision-making processes. For the most part, however, this is the most lucrative type of leadership style.
